Wir wissen sehr wohl, mit welcher Vertrauheit wir uns durch den Tag bewegen, aber nachts bewegt sich der Tag mit der gleichen Vertrautheit durch uns...

Puhun yhdeksän portin puistosta, jonne on haudattu koko kaupunki. Pysäytin vartijan ja kysyin kuinka monta porttia on Hietaniemen hautausmaalla. Muistin että buddhistit nimittävät ihmistä yhdeksän portin kaupungiksi.

Kokoelmassa Tuulen viime vuosi (1974):

Kiviltäkin jo pyydän
anteeksi että viivyttelen
tässä vaikeassa paikassa.

Niin viivyttelinkin. Olin alkanut kohdata menneisyyksiäni. Niitä tuli ja meni.

Some things we plan,
we sit and we invent and we plot and cook up;
others are works of inspiration, of poetry

Childhood memories and the “good” mother

Childhood memories and the “good” mother

Three artists living in Berlin discuss how their childhood memories and personal experiences feed into their work. In the past Wu Zhi, Niina Lehtonen Braun and Agnes Domke came together to stage an exhibition called Allmutter, which presented work dealing with their reponse to motherhood. Since then they have continued their practise separately and they talk to Ana Shorter about their output, collaboration, childhood memories and motherhood.

Finnish artist Niina Lehtonen Braun's practise spans performance and collage. She's a founding member of the Jokaklubi, a group of performance artists.

Agnes Domke is a installation artist from Germany. She creates environments or rituals where viewers can participate in a process which aims to have some sort of healing effect.

Wu Zhi is an artist from China and one of the curators at the Uhrwerk gallery in Berlin. Working in many different media – from painting to video -she seeks to find new ways to show the fears and hopes of human beings.

And when the night is cloudy

there is still a light that shines on me

Saturday, October 15, 2011

When I find myself in times of trouble.

Leni gave me a snake. It will live with me at my studio.

And when the broken-hearted people
living in the world agree,

For though they may be parted,
there is still a chance that they will see.
